1. DEFINITION AND FUNCTION OF COOKIES
A cookie is a file or device that is downloaded onto the user’s terminal to store data that can be updated and retrieved by the party responsible for its installation.
Among other things, cookies enable the storage and retrieval of data about the user’s browsing habits and device and, depending on the information they contain and how the device is used, cookies can be enabled to recognise and identify the user in order to improve their browsing experience and provide any requested services.
To follow is a list of the cookies we use on www.edm.es, according to category. Note: the same cookies may be included in more than one category.
What types of cookies exist?
Based on the entity that manages the computer or domain from which the cookies are sent and which processes the data obtained:
First-party cookies: are those sent to the user’s terminal from the server or domain managed by EDM and which provide the service requested by the user.
Third-party cookies: are those sent to the user’s terminal from a server or domain not managed by EDM, but by another entity that processes the data obtained from the cookies.
Based on the period of time during which the cookies remain active:
Session cookies: a type of cookie designed to collect and store data while the user accesses www.edm.es. They retain information simply to facilitate the services requested by the user in a single session.
These cookies facilitate website browsing; for example, they prevent pop-up windows from re-appearing from one visit to the next.
Therefore, if session cookies are disabled, certain website functions may also be disabled, preventing access to some areas and content.
These cookies are temporary and are deleted from the computer once you finish browsing the website.
Persistent Cookies: these remain stored on the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period of time defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which may range from minutes to years.
Based on purpose:
Technical cookies: these allow users to browse the website, platform, or application, and use the different options and services available, including those that the publisher uses to allow the management and operation of the site and enable its functions and services, ie: controlling traffic and data communication, identifying sessions, accessing restricted areas, repopulating elements of an order, processing the purchase of an order, managing payment, monitoring fraud associated with service security, etc.
Preference or customised cookies: these allow users to access the service with certain pre-defined general features based on a series of criteria on the user’s terminal, which can differentiate their experience from that of others, ie: language, type of browser used to access the service, regional configuration at the service access point, etc.
Analytical cookies: these enable the monitoring and analysis of the user’s browsing behaviour on www.edm.es. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity on sites, apps, and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on an analysis of the usage data.
Advertising cookies: these store information about the user’s behaviour obtained through continuous observation of browsing habits, enabling the creation of a specific profile for targeted advertising.
